About the Role

SKF's Machine Support Services team delivers specialised mechanical services for rotating equipment within the global marine and offshore industries. We specialise in the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis of propulsion and driveline components and complete marine propulsion systems.

 

Our projects range from luxury yachts and commercial workboats to inland waterway vessels, offshore support vessels and large container ships.

 

As a Marine Service Technician, you will travel internationally to customer locations and serve as SKF's technical representative on site. You will support customers with installation, maintenance, diagnostics and repair activities on critical rotating equipment and propulsion systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install new equipment and propulsion system components, including:
    • Machine alignment, chocking, grouting and installation activities.
    • Assembly and disassembly of bearings, seals and couplings.
  • Perform condition monitoring and diagnostic activities, including:
    • Laser alignment measurements.
    • Vibration analysis.
    • 3D metrology measurements.
    • Implementation of corrective actions where required.
  • Support and assist with in-situ machining operations on bearing seats and bearing housings.
  • Prepare clear, accurate and professional technical service reports.
  • Act as SKF's technical representative and primary customer contact during on-site assignments.
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety, quality and customer service.

 

What We're Looking For

  • A vocational or technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through practical experience.
  • Sound understanding of rotating equipment and mechanical service activities.
  • Good command of English, both spoken and written.
  • Dutch language skills would be advantageous but are not essential.
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from technical procedures, manuals and engineering drawings.
  • Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis and work flexible schedules when required.
  • Valid driving licence.
  • Previous experience within the marine, offshore or shipbuilding industry would be advantageous, for example as:
    • Marine Service Technician
    • Marine Engineer
    • Shipyard Technician
    • Mechanical Maintenance Technician
  • VCA-VOL certification, offshore certification, or an equivalent international safety qualification would be advantageous.
