About the Role

SKF's Machine Support Services team delivers specialised mechanical services for rotating equipment within the global marine and offshore industries.

The team specialises in the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis of propulsion systems and driveline components on a wide range of vessels, including luxury yachts, commercial workboats, inland waterway vessels, offshore support vessels and large container ships.

As an On-site Machining Technician, you will travel internationally to customer locations, performing precision machining and supporting complex installation and maintenance projects. You will act as SKF's technical representative on site, helping customers maintain and restore critical propulsion and rotating equipment systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of field machining operations, including line boring, flange facing, in-situ shaft machining and other precision machining activities.
  • Perform and support diagnostic measurements, including laser alignment, vibration analysis and 3D metrology surveys.
  • Identify deviations and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Support the installation of new equipment and drivetrain components, including machine alignment, chocking and grouting activities.
  • Carry out the assembly and disassembly of bearings, seals, couplings and related mechanical components.
  • Prepare detailed technical service and inspection reports.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, quality and customer service during all assignments.

 

What We're Looking For

  • A vocational or technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through practical experience.
  • Sound understanding of rotating equipment and mechanical maintenance activities.
  • Experience with conventional machining techniques and field machining operations is preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from technical manuals, procedures and engineering drawings.
  • Good communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
    • Dutch language skills are advantageous but not essential.
  • Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis and work flexible schedules when required.
  • Valid driving licence.
  • Experience in the maritime, offshore, heavy industry or power generation sectors would be an advantage.
  • Health, safety and offshore certifications are beneficial but not mandatory.
