JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position Title:           Assistant Manager – Heat Treatment (Factory metallurgist)

Reports To:               Channel Group Manager

Role Type:                Individual Contributor

Location:                   Bangalore (Factory)

 

Purpose of the role:

 

To ensure smooth functioning of Heat Treatment activities across the product line / channels, maximize operational efficiency and customer service and driving department lean KPI. and fulfillment of heat treat Quality systems/audit requirement.

 

To establishing process cycles for new product development, metallurgical qualification of outsourced heat-treated product, failure analysis of parts, cost reduction projects, productivity improvement, Calibration of heat treat operational & Lab equipment and certification, Training & development of workmen and contract employees.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for driver department’s lean KPI on Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost & Working climate.
  • Responsible for metallurgical qualification of all heat-treated components.
  • Responsible for in house process qualification for furnaces & induction hardening machines to release for production.
  • Responsible for daily production planning, demand management as per supply chain.
  • Responsible for furnace & Induction m/c efficiency improvement activities.
  • Round robin for hardness and metallography.
  • Responsible for metallurgical testing for raw material & heat-treated parts i.e. microstructure analysis, Case depth & Hardness Testing etc.
  • Responsible for failure analysis of internal heat-treated parts and field failures.
  • Responsible for audits certification for heat treat facility.
  • Responsible for designing procedures for preventive maintenance, process validation & thermal uniformity survey, system accuracy test for maintaining the health of the furnace.
  • Responsible for establishment of process cycles for heat treatment of new product development.
  • Responsible for ECM for inhouse & outsourced heat treatment operations.
  • Responsible to support to technical engineering function for heat treatment process establishment at subcontractor.
  • Responsible for engineering change in process, drawing, BOM, routing of the heat-treated components.
  • Responsible for establishment of process cycles for heat treatment in sealed quench/continuous cast link belt furnace of new product & processes for outsourced heat treatment operations.
  • Responsible for releasing & updation of control FMEA & control plan for new release & process change.
  • Responsible for cycle time optimization for furnace performance/output improvement.
  • Responsible for driving department safety activity, routine audits having focus to fulfil CQI9, ISO 14001, IS0 45001 & OHSAS 18001
  • Responsible for developments of associates / Trainees by provision of training on all aspects i.e. safety, quality, cost & delivery based on skill matrix.
  • Responsible for shift management, resource allocation, manning.
  • Responsible for project coordinator for the energy saving projects & establishing benchmarking practices in heat treatment.
  • Responsible for ensuring calibration of heat treatment operational and lab equipment.
  • Responsible for cleanliness lab & standard room for material and bearing testing.
  • Responsible for driving SPS and tools deployment in shop floor.

 

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Metallurgical/ Metallurgical & Materials engineering.
  • The qualifications shall include a minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in heat treat operations or a combination of a minimum of 5 years of formal metallurgical education and heat treat experience.
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with 5-8 years of relevant experience with exposure to manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in machining, Assembly process and testing of pumps, valves etc.
