APIM Architect
Job Title: APIM Architect
Reports to: Head of Data Integration

About the Role
SKF Automotive's Data, AI & Integrations department is seeking a Architect for API Management to define the future of our SAP APIM ecosystem. In this pivotal role, you will be an API Management architect and builder of the foundational technology & platform. You will be responsible for creating the architectural blueprint and technology roadmap that will guide our evolution.
This is a role for someone who can design cohesive, secure, and cost-effective APIM architecture. You will be the technical north star for our data integration team, empowering them to build with clarity, consistency, and a shared understanding of our long-term goals.
You will be a key player in enabling SKF automotive business to leverage the power of APIs for seamless integration, innovation, and digital transformation within the SAP landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the API product roadmap, aligning features with business objectives and digital strategy, prioritize platform capabilities and domain APIs accordingly
- Lead the design and governance of API standards, including specification, versioning, and lifecycle management using OpenAPI conventions.
- Govern API lifecycle to ensure every API is in a valid state with complete metadata and manage deprecation notices and sunset policies.
- Curate the security control catalog (authentication, authorization, throttling and routing policies) in alignment with information security policies
- Design secure and scalable API solutions, incorporating authentication, authorization, throttling, and routing policies.
- Monitor and administer API gateways and developer portals (availability, analytics, and self-service onboarding)
- Collaborate with business units, integration teams, and external partners to gather requirements and deliver impactful APIs.
- Promote API reuse and an API-first culture through enablement, training, and best practices
Skills & Experience:
- Strong understanding of API architecture & design principles, RESTful architecture, and related technologies
- Solid knowledge of API security, internet threats, and security policies, with practical application
- Proficiency in SAP Cloud Integration (CI) and SAP Process Orchestration (PO) for enterprise integration scenarios
- Hands-on experience in developing API proxies and policies in SAP API Management (preferred) or similar platforms JWT)
- Experience with API modeling and documentation using OpenAPI (Swagger)
- Familiarity with OWASP API Security Top 10 principles
- Governance and security depth, evidence of running design authorities under an ISMS
- Experience in technical leadership role, guiding teams and driving architectural decisions
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., ELK stack, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Familiarity with Drupal is preferred
- Familiarity with OpenAPI/Swagger, OWASP.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, cloud computing, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in the IT industry
- Proven experience (6+ years) in SAP integration, and integration architecture, with a strong focus on API design and management.
- Proven and hands-on experience (2+ years) in SAP API Management, including API platform architecture, API design, and implementation.
- Expertise in performance optimization and high-throughput management, with a strong understanding of design principles and platform governance.
- 1+ years of experience in Production support
- 1+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or API infrastructure roles.
- Deep expertise in SAP API Management within SAP BTP, including API Proxy configuration, policy implementation, and Developer Portal management.
- Understanding BTP services like SAP Cloud Integration (CI), and relevant security services, including OAuth-based integrations.
- Hands-on experience with OData, REST, SOAP, and API protocols.
- Experience with SAP modules like S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, Ariba, and their integration capabilities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills with a proven ability to balance technical nuances with strategic vision.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- A desire to learn and grow, with an interest in learning emerging & new technologies (e.g. AI/ML, API security trends, or cloud-native services)
