Position Summary
The Government Contracts and Compliance Corporate Lawyer provides legal counsel on federal, state, and local government contracting matters; supports contract negotiations with government contractors and DOD distributors; and supports compliance projects for all business units both within SKF USA and its SKF Americas and Pacific organization of companies. This role supports contract negotiation, compliance efforts and tracking, and risk mitigation related to both U.S. government procurement laws and other country regulations as applicable. The lawyer partners closely with business leaders, finance, and compliance teams locally and within the SKF Group to ensure adherence to applicable legal frameworks while enabling strategic growth.
Key Government Contracting Responsibilities
Provide legal advice on U.S. government contracting laws, including:
- Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)
- Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS)
- Agency-specific regulations
- Interpret solicitation requirements, contract provisions, and regulatory clauses.
- Support proposal development and review RFP/RFQ/IDIQ submissions.
Draft, review, and negotiate:
- Agreements with government prime contractors and subcontractors
- NDAs, consulting agreements, and vendor agreements
- Advise on contract modifications, claims, and disputes.
Ensure compliance with key regulations and frameworks, including:
- Procurement Integrity Act
- Truthful Cost or Pricing Data Act (TINA)
- Anti-Kickback Act
- Buy American Act and Trade Agreements Act
- Small business regulations (e.g., SBA rules)
Provide government contracts expertise for:
- Mergers & acquisitions (M&A)
- Due diligence of customers and suppliers
- Deliver training on government contracting compliance and best practices.
Key Compliance Responsibilities
Work as part of the SKF Group and local compliance community to support internal investigations, audits, and the compliance program adopted by SKF Group and the SKF Americas and Pacific organization. Conduct risk mitigation assessments and track risk mitigation efforts.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with:
- Business development teams on strategy
- Contracts/procurement professionals
- Engineering personnel as needed
- HR and compliance teams on initiatives
Qualifications
Education: 5–12+ years of legal experience (law firm and/or in-house)
Significant experience in U.S. government contracts law
Experience with defense and aerospace sectors preferred
Travel Requirements
15% of travel
