Legal Counsel, Corporate Legal

We are now looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to join Corporate Legal at SKF’s global headquarters in Gothenburg. You will take a leading legal role in selected matters, with direct exposure to senior stakeholders and responsibility for delivering practical solutions on some of SKF’s most strategic and business-critical initiatives.

What we and the role offers

Corporate Legal is part of SKF’s lean corporate center and the wider Group Legal & Compliance function. We are a small, strong and business-centric team supporting SKF’s leadership and key stakeholders in the central group functions. Our mandate covers matters of strategic importance, significant legal or commercial risk and a broad range of operational legal questions. Working at the intersection of law, business, technology and corporate governance, you will gain direct insight into key decisions and the opportunity to influence how complex matters are structured and executed across a large international corporation. The role has a distinctly global reach, offering frequent opportunities to work alongside legal colleagues, business leaders and specialists across SKF’s worldwide organisation.

Our work spans many of the legal areas that support SKF’s business and long-term development, including strategic projects and collaborations, M&A, governance, commercial contracting, IT, innovation and technology development, litigation and claims management, corporate finance, marketing and media.

What you can expect in the role:

  • Independently manage your matters from initial assessment through drafting, negotiation, decision and implementation, while knowing when to involve colleagues or external counsel
  • Form a clear legal view, recommend a course of action and help stakeholders move from analysis to decision and implementation
  • Advise senior stakeholders across Finance, Treasury, Investor Relations, Sustainability, IT, Supply Chain, Communications, People Experience (HR) and other group functions.
  • Draft, negotiate and review a wide range of agreements
  • Support M&A, strategic projects, governance, commercial contracts, technology and innovation initiatives
  • Manage litigation and claims-related matters
  • Provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice and risk management support
  • Collaborate with legal colleagues and business leaders across SKF’s global organization, giving you the opportunity to build an international network and contribute across jurisdictions while helping stakeholders meet business objectives and manage legal risk.

What makes this role particularly unique is the combination of autonomy and breadth of the Corporate Legal mandate. Few in-house legal positions at large international companies offer exposure to such a wide range of matters together with genuine responsibility for shaping solutions. You can remain a broad corporate lawyer while building a recognized area of expertise in the fields that genuinely interest you and that align with our business. We think lawyers perform at their best when they pair a wide view of the business with deeper knowledge in the areas that interest them most. As a result, the exact shape of the role will develop over time depending on your experience, interests and strengths, as well as the needs of the business.

We expect you to have/be:

  • Master’s degree in law (LLM).
  • Extensive relevant experience from a well-renowned law firm, an international company or a combination of both.
  • Comfortable in leading discussions and challenging constructively and making progress when the path is not yet fully defined.
  • Establish credibility with senior stakeholders through effective communication, integrity, engagement and turn legal analysis into practical options.
  • Analytically skilled with the ability to approach complex issues with commercial curiosity, integrity and a can-do attitude.
  • Experience in commercial contracts or transactions is valuable.
  • Enjoy variety and are comfortable switching between high-level strategic discussions and detailed legal analysis.
  • Eager to continue to learn and develop across an evolving legal landscape.
  • Collaborative and confident working across cultures and functions
  • Proficiency in both verbal communication and presentations in English. Swedish is desirable, and so is other languages.
