Polymer Technology Expert – Automotive Business
Automotive is all about bold innovation, execution with speed, and outstanding quality. Bring your passion for new technologies and experience in polymer engineering and you will be part of the core technical team, the Technology Office, for our new automotive ventures.
In this highly technical role, you will be a key team member, overcoming complex technical challenges to enhance the value of customized automotive products. You will be the reference and owner of polymer knowledge, interacting globally with colleagues, customers, and industry experts from universities to suppliers. This pivotal role will require handling material approval and homologation, contributing to boost innovation momentum and securing cutting-edge technologies.
The Technology Office will be composed of a pool of experts skilled in multiple technology areas essential for a leading automotive bearing suppliers: material science (steel and non-metallic materials), tribology, manufacturing processes (such as heat treatment, machining and forming), life prediction, NVH & diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Chair of the Polymer Specification Group
- Develop and maintain polymer material & component specification
- Stay current with technology and market megatrends, overseeing new research, intellectual property (IP), publications, and technology roadmaps, while securing IP positions in your area of development.
- Owner of training on polymer material and processing
- New materials selection, development
- Guide external collaboration for Polymer technologies
- Lead innovation for rapid proto
- Stay current with technology and market megatrends, overseeing new research, intellectual property (IP), publications, and technology roadmaps, while securing IP positions in your area of development.
- Chemical & temperature compatibility guidance
- Knowledge in plastic failure mechanism
Requirements:
- Master degree in Polymer Sciences, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or in any other related scientific areas.
- Understanding of polymer synthesis, polymerization mechanisms, and the chemical properties of polymers
- Focus on automotive engineered polymers: PA46, PA66, PEEK, PA6
- Focus on new bio-based engineered polymers such as PA410
- Knowledge in plastic component forming technology: injection & compression molding
- Knowledge in the physical properties and behaviors of polymer materials, including mechanical, thermal, and rheological properties.
- Understanding polymer failure modes
- Knowledge in using simulation tools such as MoldFlow, Moldex, FE tools ...
- Proficiency in using techniques such as spectroscopy, chromatography, and microscopy to analyze polymer structures and properties.
- Ability to lead and mentor junior colleagues
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken

Some additional information
This position will be located in Gothenburg (Sweden), on local contract.
One of the other major SKF Automotive sites in EMEA, such as Airasca (Italy), Schweinfurt (Germany) or Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire (France) could also be considered.
You will report to the Technology Office Manager.
