Operations Manager SKF Aerospace - Hanover, PA

The Aerospace Business Unit is responsible for Aerospace applications with a global responsibility for Sales, Manufacturing, Business development, Product and Process Development. The Business Unit operates in a large number of countries and markets, all over the world and with a customer portfolio that includes all major players in the Aerospace industry. Our business is fully customer focused,  with products specifically designed for an engine / airframe application and then produced in small quantities and small lots on highly flexible equipment. Extreme product range fragmentation, complex product design, very high quality standards and traceability requirements are the peculiarity of our Business Unit.  In Hanover, PA we produce Rings and Seals for the Aerospace and Industrial markets.


This position is responsible for directing and coordinating efficient manufacturing operations to produce products of high quality and reliability in accordance with the customers’ shipping schedules at optimum costs. 


Key Responsibilities :

  • Directs the manufacturing of company products at the lowest cost consistent with established specifications and/or goals as to quality and quantity.  Ensures maximum effectiveness is obtained.
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of Industrial Seal production achieving objectives through others ensuring the safe and efficient manufacturing of the Company’s products.
  • Insures inventory levels (especially WIP) conform to budgets and forecasts.
  • Insures receipt and availability of necessary materials and supplies for attaining optimum manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Meets schedules for finished products per customer requirements.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other departments in establishing and carrying out responsibilities. 
  • Coordinates and maintains active cost, scrap, rework and work reduction programs to improve EBIT.  Facilitates the implementation of contemporary and world class manufacturing concepts, i.e. lean manufacturing, six sigma, etc
  • Recommends manufacturing objectives for business planning purposes, capital expenditures, budgetary requirements, etc.  Establishes and insures achievement of manufacturing department objectives.
  • Identifies, correlates and assesses manpower, manufacturing, technical and personnel problems and finds or develops constructive solutions.
  • Insures the safety of employees in their exposure to varied manufacturing hazards.
  • Organizes trains and motivates operating personnel to ensure capability of meeting production objectives.
  • Administers general personnel, employee and industrial relations policies and programs as they affect his area of responsibility


Job Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or Industrial Management or the equivalent in practical experience and specialized training. 
  • Seven (7) years experience in manufacturing (shop floor emphasizing metal removal) including at least five (5) years in manufacturing management. 
  • Broad, in-depth knowledge of manufacturing methods, production planning and employee relations.
  • Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills and leadership abilities.
  • Planning/organizing – the individual prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently
  • Quality control -  the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, monitors own work to ensure quality and applies feedback to improve performance
