The Strategic Focus Area Tribology & Prognostics at the SKF Research & Technology Development is responsible for generating new knowledge and technology as well as for developing predictive physical models for life, lubrication and friction of rolling bearings. 


Tribology, bearing life, friction, lubrication, lubricants and diagnostics are knowledge area’s and technologies that are at the heart of SKF. They are key for the technological leadership of SKF and are crucial building stones in SKF’s innovation in its core functional competence: low friction, long endurance shaft rotation. 

 

At present the department consists of more than 40 highly skilled and educated researchers, scientists and technologists with the responsibility to build and provide knowledge, technology and solutions for the SKF products. 


To strengthen the Lubrication Team in Houten we are looking for a:

 

Lubrication & Tribology Expert


As an expert in the Lubrication Team, you will be supporting R&D projects focused on lubrication, surface behaviour, lubricant development (in collaboration with external partners), selection and performance. Lubricant and material selection for improved bearing performance is currently covered by a number of projects and activities in which you will play an important role.
You will report to the Competence Area Team Leader Lubrication.


Key responsibilities
•    design and perform physico-chemical methods for lubricant analysis;
•    co-develop screening methods and tools for lubricant selection;
•    design and perform tribological tests (MPR, MTM, WAM etc.) to study lubricant and surface performance;
•    maintain physico-chemical equipment;
•    manage (parts of) technology development projects;
•    support and coach researchers and research technicians in the department to grow our competence;
•    contribute to the 5S standard of our laboratories;
•    provide consultancy and support to our internal stakeholders in the various business areas on their lubrication related challenges.


Job requirements
•    at least a MSc in Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent;
•    at least 4 years of relevant working experience;
•    experience in working in an R&D environment;
•    knowledge in chemistry, lubrication, lubricant performance and tribology;
•    hands-on approach and interested in working in a laboratory for experimental testing and practical work;
•    enthusiastic attitude;
•    self-motivated and pro-active team member;
•    customer-focused and result oriented;
•    good communication skills and fluent in English.
