Senior Scientist-Steel and Steel Processing

  

The Research Technology Development (RTD) team is a diverse and multi-cultural group of creative and innovative professionals primarily based in Houten, the Netherlands. Our work is carried out in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including product development teams, product lines, industry partners and academia. Key responsibilities  

  • Lead the development and execution of the steel and steel processing research roadmap.

  • Lead, develop and implement strategic plans for the sustainable steel, aligning with SKF overall sustainability goals and technology strategy in cross functional collaboration.

  • Initiate, supervise and act as the technical lead for research and technology development projects, ensuring the highest standards of scientific rigor and innovation.

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with academic institutions and other external partners to develop forward-thinking research initiatives (including advising PhD students and postdoctoral researchers).

  • Publish high-impact research findings in reputable journals and present at key industry conferences and workshops, ensuring SKF technological leadership.

  • Mentorship and guidance to the scientists and researchers, promoting a culture of continuous learning and quality.

  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in steel research and sustainability, identify and create opportunities for innovation and improvement.

  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to integrate research outcomes into practical applications and commercial opportunities.

 

 Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field with extensive knowledge of physical metallurgy.

  • More than 10 years’ experience after PhD. in steel research.

  • Proven history of high-impact publications in reputable scientific journals.

  • Good network of academic collaborations and external partnerships.

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and the ability to develop and implement long-term research plans.

  • Effective communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team of senior researchers.

  • Experience in project management and leading multidisciplinary research projects.

  • Fluent in English, both in verbal and written communication.

Some additional information

This position will be located in Houten, the Netherlands on a local contract (other locations may be discussed, working from Houten for minimum three days per week).  
You will report to the Manager Sustainability and Strategic Research.
