Master thesis projects
Identification and classification of bearings based on vibration data
Purpose: To explore and understand how vibration data measured on a machine can be used to identify which model and type (bearing designations) are fitted within the machine. Often the owners of a machine do not know, and the bearing designations are important to apply condition monitoring algorithms on a machine. A bearing designation is a unique identifier and is used to identify and classify bearings.
Profile: Student with a strong interest in signal processing, coding, and an educational background in computer science or equivalent. Experience in mechanical engineering.
Accurate Speed Calculations from Data
Purpose: To explore and understand how an accurate machine speed can be calculated based on multiple vibration data sources and the understanding of machine kinematics. For online installations, a tachometer is often installed to measure speed, but this is cumbersome and costly. Therefore, a lot of money and time can be saved if this can be done automatically based on vibration data only.
Profile: Student with a strong interest in signal processing, coding, and an educational background in computer science or equivalent. Experience in mechanical engineering.
Supplier Quality Control
Purpose: To develop efficient Supplier Quality processes that enable continuous control and improved collaboration with our global supplier base. The objectives include evaluating and assessing current supplier issues using statistical methods, reviewing available and applicable processes within SKF, and developing tailored processes for the SKF Luleå Development Center.
Profile: We seek a student with a keen interest in process development and a passion for using statistics to enhance current ways of working. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to our organization's continuous improvement efforts.
