Description:

The Quality Assurance Engineer reports to the Quality Assurance Manager, provides leadership and support for assigned programs and projects to ensure compliance with customer specifications, internal engineering standards, and AS9100 quality system requirements. The individual is expected to develop a strong working relationship with production, engineering, vendors, and other factories in support of their area of responsibility. The candidate must be comfortable working in a dynamic factory environment specializing in high variety / low volume manufacturing. Experience in NDT, quality audits, inspection, metrics and statistical reporting required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Performs Eddy Current inspections of Flight Critical components
  • Reviews drawings, compares internal and external specifications against manufacturing processes, identifies gaps, and provides timely information to address discrepancies
  • Provides technical support to the manufacturing floor, including visual aids, instructions, inspection forms, etc., to support Production and Quality objectives
  • Conducts periodic Quality reviews and internal audits (Flight Safety, AS9100, Gauge R&R, Capability studies, PFMEA, etc.)
  • Leads and/or supports RCCA process for product issues and liaises with customers, suppliers, and the factory to resolve Quality related issues
  • Provides leadership and guidance to Quality Inspectors, Technicians, production supervisors, and operators on Quality requirements
  • Ensures measuring equipment is functional, calibrated, and adequate for the purpose
  • Evaluates new potential suppliers and monitors supplier Quality program compliance with company standards
  • Prepares product documentation and verifies conformance with specifications
  • Develops quality control documents, forms, and inspection sheets
  • Drives Quality and Continuous Improvement initiatives, including evaluations of new equipment, scrap reduction, 5S, process improvements, and inspection plans
  • Supports Environmental, Health and Safety certifications

 

Requirements:

  • BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Assurance, or similar technical field, or
  • Combination of education and relevant technical work experience

 

Experience / Skills:

  • Eddy Current Inspection – Level II certification
  • 3+ years in Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, or related technical area
  • Background in Aerospace and/or metal removal preferred
  • ISO 9001 or AS 9100 quality systems and Root Cause analysis
  • Understanding of ANSI-Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

  • Capable of developing and deploying statistical process controls to drive improvements
  • Team player with solid communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with special processes including metal heat treatment, chemical etch, and MPI
  • Experience in Continuous Improvement, Six-Sigma, EH&S and Lean Manufacturing is a plus
