JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Assistant Manager - PTD
Reports To: DGM - Product and Technology Development
Role Type: Individual Contributor
Location: Mysore
Purpose of the role
An expert in design, development, and innovation of tooling and
manufacturing processes for rubber parts, with a strong focus on compression and injection moulding. This role involves collaborating with global cross-functional teams to solve complex tooling challenges, create standards, and drive continuous improvement in rubber moulding technology.
Key Responsibilities
Technical
- Lead the design and development of moulds and variable tools for new and existing rubber product lines, specializing in compression and injection moulding processes.
- Analyze complex tooling and manufacturing issues, providing innovative solutions for rubber part production.
- Develop and improve moulding knowledge, design guidelines, and engineering tools specific to rubber compression and injection moulding.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with PTD teams globally to ensure effective knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Coordinate with PE, Tooling, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to resolve design and processing issues related to rubber moulding.
- Engage in technical discussions with suppliers and internal stakeholders to meet manufacturing requirements.
Innovation & Standards
- Drive innovation in tooling and manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness in rubber moulding.
- Develop and implement standards for mould design and manufacturing processes for rubber parts.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives and foster a culture of innovation within the team.
Project Management
- Manage projects related to tooling and manufacturing process development for rubber parts, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to project teams, ensuring compliance with stakeholder requirements.
- Monitor and report on project performance, including cost, timing, and quality metrics.
- Mentor and coach team members to enhance their skills in rubber moulding tool design.
- Develop and implement individual development plans (IDP) for team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Diploma in Tool and Die Making with additional experience and expertise.
- 6 plus years of experience in tool design preferably for rubber compression and injection moulding.
- Expertise in FEA simulations using Abacus and Mould Flow adds value.
Key Skills and Knowledge
- Deep expertise in rubber compression and injection moulding processes.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering, sealing technology, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD, CAE, PLM tools, and advanced modeling in Creo.
- Experience in creating and implementing design guidelines and standards for rubber moulding.
- Advanced skills in tolerance stack-up analysis, GPS, and reverse engineering methodologies.
- Understanding of metrology, metallurgy, and material selection for rubber applications.
- Proficiency in manufacturing and machining processes, including pre/post metal working.
- Experience with engineering change management (ECM) and DFM/A design guidelines.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Proficiency in FEA (Finite Element Analysis), Mouldex, and Abacus for advanced simulation and analysis of rubber moulds.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and global environment.
