Legal and Compliance Manager Mexico

That shall support and drive the business organization in Mexico to resolve legal issues and interact with government officials to ensure a commitment to compliance. Your main areas of responsibility will be: Legal: Contracts and Civil Law; Labor and Union; Corporate and Tax; Compliance: Antitrust, Fraud & Corruption and Data Privacy; and Government Relations. You will work in close collaboration with the local management teams and the global SKF legal and compliance network, including the SKF legal team in Brazil. You will report to VP, Legal Americas in the US.
You will
• Analyze/execute and manage all legal demands for SKF in Mexico, including preventive consultancy and litigation, for all areas of corporate law, aiming to assure legal security for the business and viability of commercial operations.
• Support the business in assessing and mitigating its risks, as well as in decision-making processes.
• Manage and interact with Mexico’s external lawyers/law firms with the goal of procuring timely and appropriate legal support in a cost-effective manner.
• Manage interactions with federal and local government officials and agencies to ensure compliance.
• Lead the business team to operational ownership and commitment to compliance.
• Deploy and strengthen SKF’s compliance program, supporting the design and implementation of robust and effective compliance controls within the organization.
• Keep up-to-date with, and understand, relevant laws and regulations related to legal and compliance functions and understand best practices in Mexico.
• Conduct trainings and workshops.
• Follow-up and investigate areas of concerns and reports through reporting channels.
We expect you to have/be
• University degree from a first-rate law school (in Mexico)
• Valid bar association membership
• Minimum 5-years of experience in a multi-national company working in a legal department with compliance and government relations responsibilities
• Have knowledge of Latin American export laws and trade laws
• Take a business-oriented, hands-on approach in everything you do
• Solid experience of working closely with and supporting, as well as challenging, business managers
• Experience of interactive training and education
• Taking the lead and having initiative
• Self-motivated
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
• An ability to lead and motivate people to achieve tactical and strategic goals
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
• A high level of personal integrity, as well as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters and show an appropriate level of judgment and maturity
