Senior Mechatronic Product Development Engineer – Automotive Business
As a Senior Mechatronic Product Development Engineer, you will join the R&D Driveline Engineering organization, within the Powertrain Engineering team. In this role you will contribute to developing the next generation of products and knowledge for electrified automotive powertrains. You will also support daily business needs with mechanical and electronic product expertise, building on SKF’s current conductive brush ring and insulating solutions portfolio. This position allows you to work in a multidisciplinary and dynamic environment in close collaboration with teams across the full value chain, from suppliers to customers. Finally, you will translate market trends and customer needs into new, efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions.
Key responsibilities
- You will define, develop, and maintain the product’s technical data, while continuously updating your technical knowledge to deliver value to SKF customers. You will ensure smooth handling of customer requests by defining application-specific offerings, providing product specifications, and proposing innovative solutions when needed.

You also will plan, drive, execute and report product development activities, as part of NMO projects and/or customer enquiries, for both mechanical and mechatronic products.

Your activities include requirements review, specification definition, design activities, design reviews, DFMEA, simulations, prototypes definition and validation, to ensure robustness of the product, and perfect fit with application specific requirements

You will capitalize the lesson learned of automotive EV/PWT application/products in order to improve the knowledge and update the design rules with a specific focus on electric motor current leakage.

Your electronic and electrical expertise will enable you to contribute to customer enquiries by providing solid product and technical insights. You will support Sales and Application Engineers by translating customer sub-system application requirements into clear product requirements.

You will drive design and validate activities for ICR and engineering changes

You will work daily with teams across the full value chain ( e.g. application engineering, competence center, manufacturing, purchasing, other product development teams and RTD, testing labs, GBI/GMC labs ) to develop new materials, technologies, simulation tools, processes and to support supplier selection, all with the aim of optimizing our products.
Requirements

Engineering Master’s degree in Mechatronics or successful experience in this field An experience or strong interest in Automotive and EV applications is a plus.

Some years’ experience in product development, or as technical leader, or in a similar R&D environment. (NMO and ETO process),

Good knowledge about electromechanical technology, in electric motors (types, characteristics, drivers) when used in high power density and integrated applications, such as EV, as well as knowledge in e-motors current leakage (EMD, Circulating, …).

Knowledge about power electronics inverters and software drivers for eMotor control will enable customer interactions at system level and will be considered meritorious.

Knowledge and experience in digital modeling and simulations tools (matlab) will be considered as a plus

You are fluent in English, both written and spoken. Some knowledge of French language is a plus.

Some additional information
The preferred location is at one of our main sites within EMEA, and we are open to other SKF Automotive sites as well.
Regular travel within Europe is required (approximately 5–10 trips per year for factory visits and collaboration), with occasional travel to other regions.
