Business Development Engineer

 

Reports to:  Factory Sales Support Manager

Location:  Sumter, SC

 

Position Overview:

The Business Development Engineer responds to request for quotes and coordinates the inquiry development work across the factory functional areas in order to achieve the specified design, cost and meet business goals. 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Conducts research and analysis to determine if new products can be manufactured and priced profitably.
    • Manages NIQ and all requests through the NIQ
    • Estimates cost based on sales volume and target pricing levels.
    • Develops profit mark-up over costs, considering historical and competitor data to benchmark price levels.
  • Participates in business teams to drive the costing process and provide timely cost in support of Sales
    • Directly contributes costing and cost reduction activities
    • Facilitates parallel efforts between Manufacturing Engineering and Product Engineering
    • Provide quick turn cost on modified catalog product
  • Analyze/review cost standards, capacity planning and market factors to determine feasibility of new business and existing business
    • Participate in cost reduction activities
    • Determine if manufacturing can be accomplished in a given window of cost
    • Coordinate and liaison between sales, manufacturing and product design in pricing and new business considerations
    • Participate/lead business teams
  • Enable factory planning and understand lead times.
  • Analyze RFQ lead time and hit rate
  • Creates Excel spreadsheets for analysis purposes; uses PowerPoint to create charts and graphs for customer presentations.
  • Participate in New Market Offer and run work packages
  • Launch new local variants
  • Facilitate new product integration into prodmast and drive sales order flows
  • Support marginal business case
  • Provide training of factory capabilities
  • Respond to ad hoc questions

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Background in manufacturing (machining, turning grinding, etc) or other equivalent manufacturing experience.
  • Self-motivated, driven and adaptable.  Positive Can-do attitude.
  • Familiar with manufacturing costing and quote development
  • Ability to analyze data and make fact-based decisions.
  • Able to multi-task and effectively, meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer skills including Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint and other Microsoft products.
  • Detailed understanding of efficiencies, uptime, capacity planning and yield. 

 

Nice to have:

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline or MBA.
  • 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
