Position Summary
This position is responsible for developing, directing and coordinating the manufacturing engineering function of the Sumter factory. This includes new machines, tooling, material and processes as well as improving/redesigning existing machines, tooling, material and processes. The position supports new programs by developing new machines, tooling, material and processes. Serves as a liaison between engineering and other departments. Directs, develops and supervises the engineering staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily leadership of engineering staff to support and resolve daily production issues.
- Daily leadership of engineering staff to develop and implement corrective actions.
- Manages capital appropriation requests via the accumulation of information and the preparation of feasibility studies to justify new/refurbished equipment.
- Manages capital/engineering projects to ensure timelines are kept and project expenses are within budget.
- Continuous survey of all manufacturing operations to determine areas for process improvements and cost reductions.
- Establishes engineering, equipment and tooling standards for more efficient application of the Company’s resources.
- Reviews and recommend design changes to new product designs to develop the best design with the lowest cost.
- Manages the design/coordinates the manufacture and run-off production machines/machine elements. New or re-furbished equipment.
- Provides engineering advice, complies data and determines probable costs for process improvement projects.
- Maintains an effective record filing/retrieval system for the purpose of future reference.
- Manages engineers and suppliers to ensure schedules and quality of work are maintained.
- Maintains an accurate, updated and organized machine tool filing system, both paper and computerized.
- Develop and implement factory and equipment layouts to accommodate changing needs of operation and manufacture in the most cost-effective manner.
- Plans and schedules activities, sets objectives with subordinates and ensures that goals are met. Delegates to subordinate the responsibility and authority necessary for the department to function effectively but retains overall responsibility and accountability for results. Supply all necessary directions to subordinates regarding work objectives. Provides training and development opportunities for subordinates to develop their technical and managerial skills.

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Experience: Ten years of Engineering Experience, preferably in machining and assembly environment. Preferably 3+ years in leadership role.
- Technical Skills: Technical knowledge of turning, drilling, grinding, gear cutting and assembly of complex items is preferred. Proven record of problem solving and engineer development. Possess a thorough knowledge of engineering principles, practices, methods, processes, tools, equipment and environmental compliance.
- Other Requirements: MUST be a US citizen or a Green Card holder. Ability to motivate and direct an engineering/ technical staff and possess proven supervisory and leadership skills. Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
