SME Hard Turning & Milling Engineer


 Role Summary:


  • Prepare layouts, drawings, or sketches of machinery or equipment, such as shop tooling, scale layouts, or new equipment design, using drafting equipment or computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Be highly proficient in Hard Turn Concepts in Turning & Milling
  • Perform routine equipment trouble shooting on process methods
  • Develop manufacturing infrastructure to integrate or deploy new manufacturing processes
  • Make mathematical computations and independent process analysis with analytical tools, sound manufacturing principles, and standard practices.
  •  Develop or maintain programs associated with automated production equipment.
  • Assist other senior manufacturing engineering staff with cost reduction and product/process improvement projects as assigned.
  • Propose cost reduction ideas and investigate proposals from other sources.  Compiles appropriate information, makes recommendations for action, implements and checks on results obtained.
  • Recommend corrective or preventive actions to assure or improve product quality or reliability.
  • Assist in the development of methods, processes and procedures analysis and work simplification techniques
  • Controlling NC/CNC functions including setup sheets, program parameters, DNC systems as well as training new operators
  • Evaluate process routing and applicable drawings to ensure proper setup and results are achieved
  • Troubleshooting technical and challenging process problems related to; machinery, equipment, tooling, and drawings.
  • Develop processes to recover, recycle, or reuse waste or scrap materials from manufacturing operations.
    Specific Skills:
  • Must have Hard Turning & Milling Background
  • Gear cutting, understanding how to measure for deviation and make adjustments
  • DIN ISO programming and cycle programming
  • Simens NX CAD/CAM experience preferred
  • NC Programming and Troubleshooting
  • Experience in Robotic Automation concepts
  • Tending and setup of automated machinery
  • Tool setting and tool life monitoring including tool & cutter testing
  • Interpretation of quality data coming from inspection, machining, automation reporting systems
  • Must be able to understand machining process (hand off from OP to OP)
  • Ability to calculate speeds, feeds for optimal cutting conditions
  • Ability to read micrometers, CMM reports, etc.
  • Understand Importation of Solid Works CAD Models
  • Ability to Program ABB Robots and understand the logic



  • Technical Associates Degree/Apprenticeship Graduate or 3-5 years of directly relatable/equivalent experience
  • Metal working experience required in hard machining procedures
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Read manufacturing drawings with GD&T callouts required
  • Machining experience with CNC programming preferred
  • Knowledge of (Common Systems or XA) or (ERP) system is preferred
